British Manufacturing of Studbolts & Nuts – Special Fasteners

Since 1971 Hague Fasteners have perfected the art of Small Batch Special Fastener manufacturing.

From our inception in our earliest form in 1971, our early years saw us dominate the “breakdown delivery service” for troubleshooting emergency supply to the oil & gas industry.

Hague’s British Engineering Group were one of the earliest British manufacturers of Petrochemical Studbolts & Nuts. Their flow line thread rolling production facility in Wolverhampton ensured ASTM quality assured bolting was shipped around the world for Rigs and pipeline maintenance, the original Studbolt Manufacturing Ltd*

However in the late 1980’s due to costing pressures brought about by cheap Asian competition, Hague Fasteners decided to step away from the standard ASTM material production, leaving the regular sized Studbolts & Nuts to the competition. Naturally the market was flooded with often inferior Chinese manufactured cheap bolting, but as was so often seen in the 80’s British Manufacturing simply couldn’t compete with imports from China.

Several British Companies appeared as stockholders to continue the supply of Petrochemical Studbolts and Nuts by importing container loads of Foreign manufactured product. Some even claimed to “Manufacture” but simply cutting lengths of studding to required lengths misleading as the bolts remain imported and not of EU Origin. During this time Hague closed their Studbolt Manufacturing mass production facility and decided to focus their niche on the more specialist material grades where quality & integrity is required above cost alone.

To this day, Hague excel in the manufacture and supply of these Superalloy fasteners. Critical bolting in ASTM A453 660, Inconel 718, Inconel 625, Monel 400 along with Duplex & SuperDuplex Grades S31803, S32550, S32750, S32760.

It is with increasing regularity now that Hague Fasteners are winning orders against the cheap inferior imports where our High Integrity Customers through all Industries are stipulating that Imported Fasteners particularly of Asian Origin must not be supplied. An about turn and a return to British manufacturing excellence. Saving a few pounds is irrelevant if the quality you’re receiving is substandard or the materials received is not in full compliance with the specification required.

The Craftsmen In Fasteners – Risk Free Bolting Solutions Since 1971
* The appearance of “Studbolt Manufacturing Ltd” (now non-trading) in 2003 was as a result of the name being adopted by another firm following the closing down of The Ralin Group’s original named Company in the 1990’s and does not have any connection to Hague Fasteners Limited.

The Art Of Special Fastener Manufacturing

The Internet is full of hollow words, brash claims & empty boasts. You have to tread carefully to ensure you are not misled and that the facts claimed are true.

The same is true when dealing with any industry. Companies claiming to have achieved outstanding feats, to have been the first, the best and the most reliable. It is outrageous claims particularly within the Fastener Industry that see Companies get stuck so often.

There is an Art to engineering, it takes more than a fancy brochure or an outrageous salesman to actually deliver a quality assured special fastener.

Hague Fasteners have been at the forefront of small batch Non Standard Fastener manufacturing since their foundation in 1971.

An archive of their Sales Brochures from 1971 to current day can be seen in the History page of the Hague Fasteners website.

Many of Hague’s new clients tell horror stories of how they thought they’d found a reliable supplier, suppliers claiming to have a wealth of experience in Incoloy, Hastelloy, Inconel, Nimonic or Other Superalloys only to find their order not delivered or ridiculously delayed or worse still the delivery is of poor quality it even of incorrect material.

Hague Fasteners have a vast array of customers from small private specialist firms through to Multinational Blue Chip organisations in all industries that use Hague Fasteners as their first choice for Special Bolting, Precision Engineered Components & Non Standard Socket Screws.

Why not let them quote you for your next Special Fastener, 42 years and still going strong.

A wide range of the manufactured fasteners made in the UK can be viewed on The Hague Fasteners Gallery.

Special Milled Components Made To Order

Special Fasteners have become more complex over the last few decades and Hague Fasteners have constantly implemented new manufacturing methods as they observe exciting new technologies to ensure they stay at the forefront of British Manufacturing. The massive variation of the Custom made bolting can be seen in their special fastener images gallery.
Due to the consistent investment in new plant and equipment, Hague are often called on by their Worldwide customers to manufacture special milled items, some of which would not even be described as a Special Fastener.

It is this manufacturing flexibility coupled with decades of Super alloy and special metals machining knowledge that enables Hague Fasteners to offer a complete precision turning, precision milling and precision engineering solution manufacturing to customers’ unique designs and OEM drawings.

Further investment has been made to further improve capabilities in their CNC milling section.

CNC mills can perform the functions of Milling, drilling, tapping, threading and turning.

CNC Mills are classified according to the number of axes that they possess. Axes are labeled as x and y for horizontal movement, and z for vertical movement.

A standard manual light-duty mill is typically assumed to have four axes:
Table x.
Table y.
Table z.
Milling Head z.

The number of axes of a milling machine is a common subject of casual “shop talk” and is often interpreted in varying ways.

A five-axis CNC milling machine has an extra axis in the form of a horizontal pivot for the milling head, as shown below. This allows extra flexibility for machining with the end mill at an angle with respect to the table.

A six-axis CNC milling machine would have another horizontal pivot for the milling head, this time perpendicular to the fifth axis.

It is the consistent adaptation of manufacturing methods and technologies that ensures Hague Fasteners remain at the top of the Special Fasteners supply chain.

Hague Fasteners remain the “Craftsmen in Fasteners”.

What are Socket Cap Screws?

Socket Cap Screws are fasteners that are manufactured with an Allen key. These fasteners have a hexagon indentation at the top of their head which allows the user to insert an Allen key and unscrew or tighten the socket cap screws. The most common material used for manufacturing socket cap screws is high strength steel, and these fasteners are often praised for their strength and withstand pressure where other screws and fasteners would not.
These are just one of the custom made screws that Hague Fasteners manufacture.

Hague Fasteners also create non standard socket set screws. These screws are similar to non standard socket screws, except they often have no head – this is because they are most commonly used within or against another object, and having no head allows for the socket set screws to be completely threaded.

Socket set screws have different point types for different situations; this can be very helpful to engineers.
The different point types are;
–          – Flat
–         –  Domed
–          – Cone
–          – Cup
–          – Knurled Cup
–          – Extended
Socket Set Screws and Socket Cap Screws are used everywhere in the modern world, from vehicles to furniture you can find these fasteners all over the place.
Hague Fasteners specialise in the manufacture or non standard socket screws and special fasteners, they even create custom made screws from OEM and Customer Drawings.
Founded in 1971, Hague Fasteners have been manufacturing fasteners from all kinds of different metals and alloys for over 40 years and have a large client list and an incredible amount of experience, along with superb machinery and the latest technology to manufacture fasteners perfectly.

Hague Fasteners have been amazed with the popularity of their Live updated Special Fastener Gallery feature on their recently re-launched website.
Even before the site has had time to be re-indexed by Google, the number of hits has exceeded all expectations with the Gallery being visited by over 70% of visitors every day.

The exciting Gallery feature was built into the new site as a way of showcasing some of the infinite array of Non Standard Fasteners, Non Standard Socket Screws and Non Standard Items to OEM drawings.
Hague Fasteners appreciate that whilst they may publicise their expertise in manufacturing Custom Wheel Studs, for example, this may not pique the interest of buyers seeking Custom Tie Bars or Square Head Bolts.
