It started with a behind-the-scenes clip. One of our machinists dipped a freshly made bolt into hot wax for transport and handling protection. That short video went viral across Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok. It resonated with two very different audiences—engineers who admire the technical accuracy, and everyday viewers who simply enjoy the satisfying motion.

MP35N Fasteners

MP35N Special Fasteners Focus For Subsea & Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering.

MP35N (Ni Co Cr Mo 35 35 20 10)
is a nickel-cobalt base alloy that is often specified in subsea special fastener designs due to its unique combination of properties – ultra high strength, toughness, ductility and outstanding corrosion resistance.

Hague Fasteners’ manufactured critical special fasteners are, by virtue of the alloy, work strengthened and finally aged to obtain strength levels of 260 to 300 ksi (1793-2086 MPa) in its full strength condition. With less cold work reduction, the alloy has the best balance of strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance (SCC) for harsh environments.

Hague’s MP35N custom fasteners resist corrosion in hydrogen sulfide, salt water and other chloride solutions, as well as the mineral acids (nitric, hydrochloric, sulfuric). In addition, all critical manufactured special fasteners exhibit exceptional resistance to crevice corrosion cracking in seawater and other hostile environments hence being a popular choice for high integrity applications in offshore and subsea industries.

HEAT TREATMENT (AGING)
MP35N should be aged at the temperature required to achieve the final properties desired. The amount of cold work in MP35N defines the recommended aging treatments.

For AMS 5844 (full strength/ heavily cold worked) material, the alloy should be aged at 1000°F – 1200°F for 4 hours.

For optimum sulfide SCC resistance, less-heavily cold worked material can be aged at 1300°F or 1350°F for 4 hours or at 1425°F for 6 hours as indicated in NACE MR-0175. The 1425°F aging treatment provides the best sulfide SCC resistance, but at the expense of strength.

Exposure to temperatures much above the recommended aging temperatures may result in a significant (and non-recoverable) loss in strength caused by the reversion of the cold-worked metallurgical structure to the much softer annealed structure.

Investment In New Special Fastener Machinery

Hague Fasteners have once again invested in increasing production capacity as sales records continue to grow reaching record breaking profitability levels not seen since the 1980’s.

This weeks new arrival at their Watery Lane Special Fastener Production facility sees CNC capacity increase by 20% since the start of the year.

Following the successful apprentice training schemes of 2013 Hague Fasteners are now seeing the skills acquired over the last 45 years being passed on to their new generation of Special Fastener technicians.

New advancements and investments in machine tools now sees Hague Fasteners massive diversity further increased, with the added ability to manufacture shafts and leadscrews with ACME Threads, Trapezoidal Threads and Square Threads, at more realistic prices than manufacturers that purely specialise in these thread forms.

Latest 3D modelling of special designed customer drawings now ensures manufactured Special Fasteners can be taken from a drawing to a physical component as if from stock.

It is a proud boast that Hague’s customer ethos can see an item made from round bar and supplied to a customer, faster than some bureaucratic fastener stockists need to pick from stock and make available for collection. The Internet is full of hollow words, brash claims & empty boasts. You have to tread carefully to ensure you are not misled and that the facts claimed are true.

Special Milled Components Made To Order

Special Fasteners have become more complex over the last few decades and Hague Fasteners have constantly implemented new manufacturing methods as they observe exciting new technologies to ensure they stay at the forefront of British Manufacturing. Due to the consistent investment in new plant and equipment, Hague are often called on by their Worldwide customers to manufacture special milled items, some of which would not even be described as a Special Fastener.


It is this manufacturing flexibility coupled with decades of Super alloy and special metals machining knowledge that enables Hague Fasteners to offer a complete precision turning, precision milling and precision engineering solution manufacturing to customers’ unique designs and OEM drawings.

Further investment has been made to further improve capabilities in their CNC milling section.


CNC mills can perform the functions of Milling, drilling, tapping, threading and turning.

CNC Mills are classified according to the number of axes that they possess. Axes are labeled as x and y for horizontal movement, and z for vertical movement.

A standard manual light-duty mill is typically assumed to have four axes:
Table x.
Table y.
Table z.
Milling Head z.

The number of axes of a milling machine is a common subject of casual “shop talk” and is often interpreted in varying ways.

A five-axis CNC milling machine has an extra axis in the form of a horizontal pivot for the milling head, as shown below. This allows extra flexibility for machining with the end mill at an angle with respect to the table.

A six-axis CNC milling machine would have another horizontal pivot for the milling head, this time perpendicular to the fifth axis.

It is the consistent adaptation of manufacturing methods and technologies that ensures Hague Fasteners remain at the top of the Special Fasteners supply chain.
