Engineering Apprenticeships

Engineering Apprenticeships

Hague Fasteners’ continued growth in a saturated industry is, in no small way, down to the persistent policy of bringing in the next generation of young and hungry school leavers yearning to earn a trade in one of the countries booming industries.

Hague Fasteners are serious investors in the local youth, with a strong focus on taking the young men and women from local schools and colleges and giving them a solid foundation in engineering through The Hague Fasteners Apprenticeship Scheme.

With the expert assistance and training given by NOVA training in Willenhall, Hague Fasteners are proud to see the investment in young people paying off as two of their more recent trainees, Hayden Smith & Jamie Fitzpatrick, blossom in their roles within the busy Engineering manufacturing facility at Hague Fasteners.

Company CEO, Jon Hague, reinforced the company ethos saying “it is this next generation of worker that is so important in our Special Fastener Industry. Engineering Apprenticeships are vital for growth, the ability to take school leavers with NOVA training’s fantastic support means we can train and develop the young local talent into our specific sort of staff. Whilst passing on vital skills from some of our more experienced members of staff, these talented youngsters are molded into the very specific high standard support team members that make Hague Fasteners stand out in a very stale, old fashioned, industry. ”

Claire Hague, joint owner of Hague Fasteners and head of Staff Development, went on to say “we are inundated with old fashioned salesmen, production engineers and top level management applying for vacancies here from companies that are perhaps finding things a little difficult, but it is their link to our industry competitors that is the barrier. Our success is due to our being significantly different to the rest of the Special Fastener industry in our exceptional levels of Customer  Service and attention to detail not found at our competitors. We are proud to be different and we don’t want any habits from elsewhere spoiling our ethics.”

Both Jamie and Hayden are now approaching their one year apprenticeship completion date and the skills they now bring by being molded into the ‘Hague Fasteners way’ is a massive boost to the Company. Both youngsters are working to improve the companies despatch department and their freshness ensures Hague never rest on their laurels and that every aspect of the business is encouraged to improve.

Zoe Hague Crosses The Finish Line In 4th Place

Hague Fasteners owners Claire & Jon Hague decided to Sponsor their Cousin Zoe, as she faced massive costs in order to compete in the Chicago Aquathlon Triathlon Championships in Chicago this week.

She clocked 37min 36sec to complete a 750 metre swim in Monroe Harbour followed by a 5km run that ended at Buckingham Fountain.

The 19-year-old was just over half a minute away from making it on to the medal podium, but her performance meant that she automatically qualified for next year’s competition.

“This was the first time I’ve been part of the GB team so to finish just behind my teammate Francesca Durbin in fourth place is a great honour,” said Zoe, a former student at Priory School in Hitchin.

“You always think you can win, otherwise there’s no point competing,” she said.

“However, with just eight weeks’ intensive training under my belt, I’m really pleased that I came so close to bringing a medal back home.”

She continued: “It has only been five years since I entered my first aquathlon so I’ve come a long way in a fairly short space of time.

Hague Team GB Athlete

West Midlands manufacturer backs young athlete to become a world star

A specialist fastener manufacturer has stepped in to help a young athlete realise her dream of competing for Great Britain in the World Aquathlon Championships this week.
Hague Fasteners – a critical supplier of components for prestigious oil and gas, transport and infrastructure projects – has agreed to become Zoe Hague’s main sponsor for the next two years.

This will allow the 19 year-old lifeguard to travel to Chicago and compete against international rivals in the high-profile event, which involves a 750-metre swim in Monroe Harbour, followed by a 5km run that will end at the landmark Buckingham Fountain.

The company’s funding will cover travel, accommodation, training equipment and entry fees for the next eighteen months.

“We are all big sport fans in the company and, when we heard my cousin had been chosen to represent Team GB in the 17-19 age group, we had no hesitation in becoming her main sponsor,” explained Jon Hague.

“This means she will now be able to concentrate on training and competing in events across the world, hopefully bringing back medals for Great Britain and giving our company a bit of international exposure in the process.”

Zoe Hague added: “This is the first time I’ve qualified to be part of the GB team and it’s a great honour to be representing my country in the 17-19 age group.

“It has only been five years since I entered my first aquathlon so I’ve come a long way in a fairly short space of time. Hopefully, this is just the start and I can do enough to convince the coaches that I have enough potential to compete in future international competitions.”

She went on to add: “I have to say a big thanks to Hague Fasteners, who have agreed to be my main sponsor. This gives me the freedom to concentrate on Chicago and future events safe in the knowledge that I have enough funding to cover my training and competing costs.”

Hague Fasteners is heading for its 45th year in business in good health, after increasing its annual sales by 20% over the last twelve months.

The company is investing heavily in young people and has recently recruited three apprentices to help with its planned expansion in 2016.

Hague Fasteners Support Wolverhampton Football Academy

Hague Fasteners have always supported local youth development, from Youth Apprenticeships and Work Experience Placements through to the support of Local Grassroots Football Teams.

This Year Hague Fasteners have continued to work closely with Smestow School in particular with their Sixth Form Football Academy.

Hague Fasteners Smestow Team

When Hague Fasteners heard of the Schools request to local industry to support them in securing a new Football Kit to replace their existing one and to promote the Schools major 50th Year Anniversary, Hague Fasteners jumped at the chance to offer their support.

Hague Fasteners have supplied the Football Academy with a Customised Football Kit that is now proudly worn around the Country at the various Matches and Tournaments the Sixth Form Students attend.

However the highlight of the year so far was the overseas trip to Valencia CF for the Academy youngsters to train alongside the Valencia Professionals and take part in games with local Spanish youth teams to broaden their understanding of European Coaching and football.

Smestow Football Academy

Hague Fasteners are proud to have played a small role in supporting Smestow Football Academy and wish the Staff and Students the best of success in their football ventures.

Special Fasteners Fixing Global Industry

When others fail to deliver, you can rely on Hague Fasteners to deliver.   This week we recieved a request to supply over 1500kgs of Custom Manufactured SuperDuplex Hexagon Bolts & Nuts in less than 5 days.

Within 24 hours of winning the order the round bar material hit our production facility in the heart of the UK and our loyal team set about the massive task asked of us.

The customer service ethos throughout every member of Hague Fasteners staff guaranteed that our Customer would have the order in hand when needed, regardless of the challenges that would undoubtedly crop up despite perfect planning and scheduling.

It is the pride and sense of achievement that sets Hague Fasteners apart, often taking control of another Fastener Suppliers failure to deliver and acting with complete sense of purpose to minimise Plant downtime and financial penalties.

It was pointed out, after completing production in less than 72 hours, that other fastener companies take longer to supply the certification for their supplies than it takes Hague Fasteners to manufacture and deliver 1.5Tonnes of Super Duplex Fasteners.

As the original Breakdown Bolting Service Providers, Hague Fasteners have been doing this for 44 years, why go anywhere else ?

Hague Fasteners: Big Enough To Deliver, Small Enough To Care.

MP35N Fasteners

One of the materials that Hague Fasteners are increasingly manufacturing in is ‘MP35N’.
MP35N alloy is a nonmagnetic, nickel-cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy possessing a unique combination of ultrahigh tensile strength (up to 300 ksi [2068 MPa]), good ductility and toughness, and excellent corrosion resistance.
MP35N fasteners are made for many applications in many industries like oil and gas, aerospace and even the subsea industry. MP35N can also be effectively used at cryogenic temperatures without embrittlement whilst keeping its properties at temperatures up to 600°F. MP35N is able to resist corrosion to most mineral acid, hydrogen sulphide and seawater environments whilst exhibiting excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement, even at high strength levels. It is a material that Hague Fasteners have seen growth in demand during the last 12 months.
Some of the typical uses of MP35N in various industries are as follows:
Downhole Pump Drive Shafts and Tools
High Stength marine Components
Valve Stems and Pump Shafts
Fastener system components like pins, shear bolt and Engineering Studs and Hex Bolts.
MP35N fasteners can be hot and cold worked and formed by a wide variety of processes. Work strengthening can be accomplished by processes such as extruding, rolling, swaging and drawing. It can also be TIG welded, its weldability is actually similar to Type 304 Stainless Steel.

MP35N

The machinability of MP35N is similar but better than that of Waspaloy which is a widely used standard for Nickel-Cobalt-Chromium base alloy machining performances, which makes this material more reliable and higher quality.
Some of the standards available for MP35N fasteners are as follows:
UNS R30035
AMS 5758 – MP35N® VIM-VAR Bar
Solution heat treated @1900-1925°F for 4 to 8 hours
AMS 5844 – MP35N® VIM-VAR Bar
Solution heat treated @1900-1925°F for 4 to 8 hours and Work Strengthened
AMS 5845 – MP35N® VIM-VAR Bar
Solution heat treated @ 1900-1925°F for 4 to 8 hours, Work Strengthened & Aged @ 1000-1200°F for 4 hours
NACE MR0175
ASTM F-562
BS 7252-6
ISO 5832-6

The chemical composition for MP35N is as follows
Ni 35%
Co 35%
Cr 20%
Mo 10%

Physical properties associated with this alloy:
DENSITY 8.43 g/cm3 0.304 lb/in3
MELTING POINT 1440oC 2625oF
COEFFICIENT OF EXPANSION 12.8 µm/m °C
(20 – 100°C) 7.1 x 10-6 in/in °F
(70 – 212°F)
MODULUS OF RIGIDITY 80.7 kN/mm2 (11705 ksi)
MODULUS OF ELASTICITY 234 kN/mm2 (33939 ksi)

Some of the products Hague Fasteners can manufacture are but not limited to:

MP35N Fasteners
MP35N Socket Capscrews
MP35N Hex Bolts (normal and Heavy Series)
MP35N Hex Nuts (normal and Heavy Series)
MP35N Pins
MP35N Custom Fasteners
MP35N Socket Shoulder Screws
MP35N Eng Studs
and many more.

It is because of high quality steels like MP35N that Hague Fasteners can produce the highest quality components for our customers and ensure they are satisfied with every part of their order and service received.

Cathodic Corrosion Protection Of High Strength Subsea Bolting

In the last decade Hague Fasteners have seen massive growth in the supply of British Manufactured, European origin material Critical Bolting manufactured to Aker, VGS and other OEM specifications specifically written to ensure the Prevention of failures of high strength fasteners in use in offshore and subsea applications.

(null)
The selection, specification, manufacture and installation of fasteners for subsea use is critical to ensure their resistance to corrosion due to various forms of environmentally assisted cracking.

As Oil exploration progresses into far deeper waters, the cost of a fastener failure or other mechanical component breakdown is both a serious financial risk but more so the environmental damage could be truly catastrophic.

With reputation at stake, Hague Fasteners with 45 years of sector experience and technical excellence ensures your subsea projects are without risk and quality assured.

The Subsea specifications Hague Fasteners work strictly too give particular emphasis on the prevention of environmentally induced cracking under the conditions of cathodic prevention. Cathodic protection is frequently used in Marine vessels, and offshore and subsea steel structures to reduce the base metal corrosion by making it the cathode in an electrochemical cell.

It is Hague’s decades of experience and knowhow that gives their ever growing Subsea customer base the peace of mind that the special fasteners manufactured and coated by Hague Fasteners do not deviate from the expert specifications designed to minimise the risk from the various forms of environmentally assisted cracking (EAC).

These include stress corrosion cracking (SCC), hydrogen embrittlement (HE) and sustained load cracking (SLC).

The sectors supplied by Hague Fasteners are almost always the high performance applications requiring higher strength fasteners. A major issue with fasteners used offshore and subsea is that higher strength fasteners are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement. In general, higher the strength, the higher the hardness of the material and the greater the susceptibility to these failure mechanisms.

The more common critical offshore and subsea bolting material grades requested are the common bolting materials ASTM A 320 Grade L43, ASTM A320 L7 and ASTM A193 Grade B7, the fastener industry is flooded with inferior imported mass produced petrochemical fasteners where quality is often compromised in exchange for being the cheapest and securing contracts. Hague Fasteners distance themselves from this side of the market as failures in these cheap and suspect quality items have occurred, particularly where the use of cathodic protection increases their susceptibility to hydrogen cracking.

Hague Fasteners certify their manufactured items with additional PMI testing, MPI testing and further ensure integrity of their components by limiting the hardness well below the proven 34 HRC where high strength bolting becomes highly susceptible to cracking from hydrogen embrittlement induced by cathodic protection. For reference, the maximum hardness of regular B7 is 35 HRC and hence can fall above the susceptible range.

Quality simply can not be compromised. The best in British manufacturing at Hague Fasteners ensures all the risks are assessed and minimised by strict adherence to Subsea and Offshore manufacturing specifications. Where reputation is at stake, Hague Fasteners are your solution.
